The weekend we went swimming with the dolphins was also the perfect excuse to tick off a weekend away with Aiva. I promised myself when we sold our holiday home that there would be lots of weekend getaways moving forward, and a mummy/daughter weekend was high on my “50 before 50” list.
We decided on an overnight stay at Glenelg. I thought I had found the perfect place for us, but upon arrival, it felt more like a “one-hour hooker room.” Aiva wouldn’t touch a thing and begged me to return the key. There was no way we were getting in those beds!
We decided to forego the money and head to the Grand Hotel. We booked online and were greeted by a chauffeur at the foyer, feeling much more at home. Upon being greeted at reception, we discovered that the Grand hadn’t received our online booking, and they were completely booked out. This weekend away was not going to plan!
Finally, I secured us a night at the Oaks Hotel, and the staff there were amazing. They upgraded us to a 2-bedroom suite and gave us free parking for that night and all the following day. The room was lovely. We enjoyed Yo-Chi at Glenelg for dinner and then chilled in the room after being exhausted from a day of unexpected changes of plans.
This trip may not have gone as planned, but it will be an adventure we’ll never forget.
